El Madroñal – Costa del Sol’s best-kept secrets

Attracting millionaires since 1950

This natural paradise rubs shoulders with neighbouring La Zagaleta, one of the richest postcodes in Spain, and has been earmarked by the rich and famous as somewhere to get away from prying eyes (and the cameras) since the 1950’s when the first millionaires built their exclusive retreats here. The development has been designed to provide space and privacy. Plots are at least 2,600 square metres so there’s plenty of scope for spacious houses and large gardens. All come with sweeping views  you can see the different peaks that make up the Rif Mountains in Morocco.

Luxury is key to describing homes in El Madronal. Alongside spacious living go sumptuous furnishings and fittings, infinity pools, manicured gardens, state of the art technology, staff accommodation and room for several cars. All within natural surroundings where the silence is only broken by birdsong.

High security on the complex translates into total privacy. Numerous high-profile politicians, executives and businesspeople have escaped from their daily grind here for a welcome break. And plenty of celebrities have taken holidays in El Madronal far from the long lenses of the paparazzi. But discretion is absolute so you never know who’s staying until they’re not there anymore – as fans of One Direction has just discovered.

Celebrity homes on the development include the estate belonging to the film star Madeleine Carroll, known as the ‘iceberg maiden’ and star of Hitchcock’s ’39 Steps’. Her magnificent El Madronal home was one of the first to build and she spent her retirement here. You can get a taste of a Hollywood retreat by renting the large country mansion, Hacienda Madronal 2.

Sierra Blanca – The Beverly Hills of Marbella

The Sierra Blanca, meaning ‘White Range’, is named after the lack of vegetation on its slopes. It leaves the pale grey limestone rock exposed.

Sierra Blanca is definitely one of the most prestigious areas on the Costa del Sol. Anybody who wishes to live in an elegant and secure residential area in the heart of Marbella, will probably search for a property here.

Air Sierra Blanca

Sierra Blanca

It occupies the lower reaches of the iconic La Concha Mountain that towers majestically over Marbella. Tucked in between indigenous umbrella pines, Sierra Blanca’s elevated position offers imposing views over Marbella and its coastline to the Mediterranean, all the way across to Gibraltar and North Africa.

While too expansive to be a gated urbanization, Sierra Blanca can be considered a gated community with excellent 24h security. Minimum of transit traffic makes it a highly tranquil and secluded residential area set against the picturesque foothills of Marbella’s symbol- La Concha Mountain. This position affords the area with fantastic views over Marbella and the coastline, whilst backing on to protected natural parkland.

Sierra Blanca’s privacy belies a convenient setting just a few minutes from the Old City (Casco Antiguo) – a charming center of Marbella, exciting Puerto Banús, a wide choice of excellent golf courses, beaches and other facilities.

Sierra Blanca has certainly been in demand with higher end home buyers from a wide range of nationalities. They range from British, Spanish and German homeowners to Scandinavian, Dutch and also Russian ones. Sierra Blanca is a very international environment that is becoming increasingly popular with affluent Russians in particular.

It has the appeal of the large, luxurious properties, the security and privacy but not only that.  It is also characterized by its compelling combination of country style pleasures. For example you can go for walks in the countryside, combined with being right at the heart of everything. What’s more, Sierra Blanca has some of the most spectacular views anywhere along this coast.

Why you should rent a villa in San Pedro

Have you ever thought about renting a villa in San Pedro? If not, here’s why you should!

San Pedro de Alcantara is a traditional Spanish town. It has embraced its expansion into a modern alternative destination to its glitzy neighbours of Puerto Banus and Marbella.

San Pedro has undergone a major transformation in recent years. It still remains its Spanish atmosphere and offers an impressive number of typical bars and restaurants.villa in san pedro

San Pedro’s new recreational area for kids and adults

Here is why you should rent a villa in San Pedro.

The beachside of the town offers a wonderful, wide beach promenade with quite a few restaurants, greatly appreciated by both locals and visitors.

San Pedro de Alcantara is an active town for sports, with its own paddle tennis club, indoor sports center, and frequent bike races takes place here throughout the year.

Consider taking a look at our holiday properties to find your perfect villa in San Pedro!

San Pedro – a true slice of traditional Spain

Originally a quiet village, San Pedro is rapidly becoming the place to be. People relocate here to get away from the sometimes hustle and bustle of slightly larger towns. San Pedro is located under the Sierra de Ronda mountain range. It is just a 7 minute drive from Puerto Banus and 10 minutes to Marbella. This is also one of the reasons why you should rent a villa in San Pedro.

The whole centre of San Pedro has been converted with a stunning central boulevard running through the middle. Here there are cycling routes, fountains, children’s play areas and an amphitheatre to watch local groups and flamenco. To the East of the boulevard is an ice rink and skate park where locals and holiday makers hang out in the evenings. They create a lovely family atmosphere. If you ask us locals where to go for a nice evening stroll, they will all mention this boulevard.

villa in san pedro
City center of San Pedro

Along the Boulevard you will find many new eateries and bars. You will certainly not be bored renting your villa in San Pedro. San Pedro has plenty of wonderful eateries where you can enjoy, traditional Spanish food in restaurants such as Alfredos and La Parilla de Viviana, Thai, Italian, Mexican and some wonderful fish options as well. If you do want to just gaze out onto the shimmering Mediterranean, you can eat right on the beach at Kaluha Kalu or for those special occasions please try El Ancla also located on the beach.

The beach side of San Pedro is known as Nueva Alcantara. Here you will find stunning apartment complexes where both Spanish and Europeans have holiday homes. In the summer months’ people are either at the beach or the pools.

Why it is so great to rent a villa in San Pedro

The town of  San Pedro de Alcántara is a square-shaped collection of tightly-knit white buildings. Not only that but also straight and narrow streets and a main central plaza that is overlooked by a lovely church. Compact, bright, laid-back and certainly extremely traditional, San Pedro de Alcántara is a favourite with holidaymakers of a certain type, particularly those who take pleasure from strolling through peaceful streets, enjoying a relaxing cup of coffee or glass of beer, sampling a selection of terrific tapas and simply enjoying the sunshine.

Away from the cheek-by-jowl apartments, shops, bars and offices that comprise the busy yet somehow perennially peaceful centre of San Pedro de Alcántara, the newer urbanisations of Nueva Alcántara form something of a front garden for the town. Cross the busy N340 coastal road and a kilometre’s worth of wide boulevards, grid-shaped developments and grassy lawns stretch out before you. They are fronted by the shimmering azure-blue of the Mediterranean. Here, hundreds of expats and Spaniards have holiday homes, enveloped by an other-worldly sense of stillness. In the summer, everyone’s either at the beach or round the pool, and in the winter, everyone’s everywhere but here.

Take a look at our catalog and find your perfect villa in San Pedro!

Nghtlife and eating out

Facing the coastal road – and unmissable to any driver stuck at the lights and heading west – is the Hogan Stand Irish Pub. It is a magnet for holidaymakers staying in San Pedro. The Hogan Stand is pretty much the only non-Spanish bar in the town. As a result, is an intriguing place to visit, alone amidst plenty of bodegas, discotecas and Da Bruno’s restaurants. Inside, you receive a warm welcome, slightly higher prices but an unmistakeably ‘holidaymakers’ atmosphere.

Elsewhere, San Pedro will surprise you with the choice and vibrancy of its nightlife. The ‘Forbidden Square’ is somewhat shabby during the day – as many nightspots tend to be. However, at night the ten or so bars-cum-clubs that front the square stay open until late. They pump out a variety of disco and pop music all night and attract a young and mostly local crowd who spill out into the square and mingle happily until sunrise.

Additional night activity you can get in the form of a couple of vibrant salsa bars, a delightful smattering of tapas bars and the Plaza de Iglesia. There are plenty of free open-air concerts take place at numerous intervals throughout the year.

Finally, if you think you’d like to rent a villa in San Pedro, we suggest you take a look at our catalog of holiday properties and choose what’s best for you!

Magnificent villa in Costabella

Costabella

This magnificent villa is located in Costabella, east of Marbella. Costabella is a beachside area located a couple of kilometers east from Marbella, just below el Rosario and in between Elviria and los Monteros. The area is known for its splendid beaches. It offers two great beach restaurants, Las Flores beach restaurant being probably the best known. Going closer to the beach the plots get smaller and streets get narrower. This gives the area a very intimate feel and a vibrant social community thrives in Costabella. The upper side has some very luxurious houses and the streets are wider there.

The restaurants on the beach are excellent, el Rinconcito, Copacabana and las Flores (in between Costabella and las Chapas playa) are widely recognised as good quality/price restaurants. The area of Costabella itself has a Opencor supermarket next to the Nacional 340 road. There you can also find some commercial locals with tourist shops, cafeterias and a luxurious bakery, pan de lux who offer the best bread from Luxembourg.

Costabella is a perfect area for young families as well because of its proximity to several top notch international colleges. The English International College in Ricmar is just on the other side of the N340 and so is the Alborán college. Both schools have exceptional track records and top of the bill facilities.

Sports facilities can be found in el Rosario where the el Casco tennis club is located. This tennis club has several clay courts and some hard courts. The Santa Clara golf course is just a five minute drive and the Rio Real and Santa Maria golf courses are no more than ten minutes away. A great family activity is nearby funny beach, they have karting, paragliding and more activities.
